Nell Custom Roman Shades

Description

• Shade material: 30% cotton, 70% recycled fibers. 120gsm thick, well-draped fabric.
• Color options: 2 color options
• Price structure: Total Price = Base Price + Add-ons
• Included with shade: Roman shade comes with a header and hardware (screws are for installation through drywall and into a stud or solid wood member).
• Hardware shipping: The hardware ships in the same package as the shade. If a motor or remote control is added to the order, it ships in the same package as well.
• Motorization note: The recommended minimum window depth for inside mount is 2 1/2 inches.
• Lining note: Blackout lining may make the fabric appear slightly darker. This is a natural effect of the lining, whereas unlined curtains will look brighter in the light.
• Light note: Softly filters light. For rooms that require complete blackout, add the Blackout Lining option.

Why They Are Loved

• The Coolest Hand in the Range: At 30% cotton, Nell feels noticeably cooler to the touch than a linen or polyester blend — the difference you can actually notice on a sunny afternoon with the shade half lowered.
• Matte, Not Shiny: Cotton has almost no surface sheen, so the shade reads as soft textile from across the room rather than a panel that catches light. Nothing glares, nothing looks plastic.
• Softest Surface, Honest Wear: Cotton is the softest hand in the collection and it shows — minor creasing from folding is normal and relaxes once the shade is hung. That is the trade for a surface this pleasant to touch.
• Breathable in a Warm Room: A cotton face lets air move through the weave differently than a dense synthetic, which is why Nell is comfortable in a sunlit room where other shades feel close and warm.

Customization Options

• Two Colors: Two color options in a matte cotton face. A solid shade with no pattern to clash, so it sits easily in a room that changes and nothing to date next season.
• Tailored Fit: Use the Measure Your Windows section to customize Nell to your exact window dimensions.
• Lift Style Options: Select from cordless, continuous cord loop, or remote motorized lift systems.
• Fold Style: Choose Pleated Fold for a crisp tailored look, or Soft Fold / Relaxed Fold for a more textured drape.
• Top Down Bottom Up: Available on this model for shades that open from the bottom as well as the top — useful on tall windows over cabinets or desks.
• Lining Options: Unlined for the brightest glow · Privacy Lining to reduce light · Blackout Lining when the room needs to be dark.
• Side Covers: Optional side covers conceal the operating mechanism and reduce side light gaps on inside mounts.
• No-Drill Installation: Upgrade to a no-drill mount for tool-free installation without damaging the wall or window frame.

The LUCO Difference

• DIY-friendly: A Roman shade installs in about 15–20 minutes with a standard drill. No specialist tools, no rewiring, no waiting in for an installer — you clip the headrail onto the brackets and the shade is ready to use.
• Handcrafted to order: Every shade is cut to the exact measurements you submit, sewn and finished to order, then deep-cleaned before it ships. It arrives ready to hang — no assembly beyond mounting the brackets.
• Free shipping: Free shipping on all orders inside the contiguous United States, with no minimum order value. Custom-made curtains are estimated to arrive within 7–14 business days of ordering.
• Measuring protection guarantee: If the finished shade does not match the measurements you submitted, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos. We will remake the order at no charge — you keep the original shade.
• Free 3 year limited warranty: A 3-year limited warranty comes standard with every residential purchase. It covers defects in materials, workmanship, and internal mechanisms under normal residential use, and begins on the delivery date shown in the shipping record.

Inside Mount Deduction

• Do I need to adjust my measurements for an inside mount? No. Enter the exact net window opening size — the production team will automatically deduct 3/16 inches from the width to ensure a smooth, snag-free fit.
• Outside mount is measured differently: This deduction applies to inside mount only. For outside mount, measure the area you wish to cover including the trim, then add your own overlap — see the Outside Mount section below.
• For more light coverage: Choose an outside mount.

Recommendations

• Dye lot variation: Fabric color can vary from one dye lot to another. To ensure all shades are from the same dye lot, order shades for the same room at the same time.
• Matching pleat sizes: Multiple shade orders of different heights may not have the same pleat size. Order all shades using the longest length in the room and with the same lift system.
• No valance selected: When no valance is selected, fabric will fall over the top of the headrail (waterfall style) and can be 2+ inches from the wall on outside mount. Add 4+ inches to the width when outside mounting to prevent light gaps.
• Expected light gap: A small light gap of approximately 1/8" – 1/4" on each side is necessary for smooth operation — the fabric is slightly narrower than the headrail so the shade can travel without obstruction. Outside mount provides better light control.

No Drill

• Applies to: Cordless Lift / Corded Lift / Motorization
• Size range: Width 14" – 78" × Length 14" – 96"
• Mount depth: 2.5" minimum depth requirement, inside mount

Good to Know

• Cotton creases — this is normal: Cotton is the softest fabric in the range and it creases more readily than a synthetic blend. Minor creasing from folding relaxes once the shade is hung. Do not use hot water, which will shrink it.
• Wrinkles after installation: Fabric Roman shades may have minor wrinkles after installation. Most smooth out over several days. For quicker results, use a garment steamer on the back of the shade, avoiding direct contact with the face fabric.
• Light gaps: A small light gap of 1/8" – 1/4" per side is necessary for smooth operation. No Roman shade can fully eliminate light gaps around the edges.
• Deduction tolerance: Deductions may vary by approximately +/- 1/8". Do not account for factory deductions when measuring.
• Material covers the window: Material will always cover a portion of your window, even when fully raised.
• Safety device: The safety device is required by law on chain loops and prevents free-hanging loops. Install it as far from the control mechanism as possible to prevent slack.
• Do not cut the cords: Do not cut the cords or touch the lifting mechanism on the back. Cutting or adjusting them may damage the product and make it unusable, and damage from improper handling is not covered.
• Do not unfold before install: Do not pull the fabric or unfold the shade before it is fully installed, or the internal cords may tangle and cause damage.

Notes

• Liner color: Liners, cord shroud, and rod pocket at the back of the shade are generally a light cream color, which may contrast with darker fabric selections.
• Natural material disclaimer: Shades are made by natural materials, which may be discolored over time. It is normal for the finished shade to differ slightly from the sample book.

• Size: 14.1" × 2.1".
• Features: Easy to use · Lightweight ultra-thin · Environmental protection. Keeps the motor powered by sunlight — no wiring, no battery removal. Performance depends on sunlight exposure; direct or sufficient natural light is required.

Measuring — Inside Mount

• Definition: The shade is installed inside the window frame. This provides a clean, tailored look that showcases your window's trim. Ideal for minimalist designs or smaller rooms.
• How to measure — Width: Measure the inside width of the window frame at three points (top, middle, and bottom). Use the SMALLEST of the three measurements.
• How to measure — Height: Measure the inside height from the top of the window sill to the underside of the top jamb at three points (left, center, and right). Use the LARGEST of the three measurements.
• Minimum depth requirement: Your window frame must be at least 2.5 – 3 inches deep (depending on the model) for a flush fit. Otherwise the shade may protrude from the frame.
• Light gaps: To allow for smooth operation there will be a small light gap (approximately 1/8" to 1/4") on each side. If you require 100% total blackout for a bedroom, consider an Outside Mount.
• Factory deduction: Enter the exact net window opening size. The production team will automatically deduct 3/16 inches from the width.

Measuring — Outside Mount

• Definition: The shade is installed on the wall above the window frame or directly on the trim. This style makes windows appear larger, offers the best light blockage, and can hide unattractive window frames.
• How to measure — Width: Measure the total width of the window area you wish to cover, including trim. Then add extra width for overlap.
• How to measure — Height: Measure from the desired top mounting point down to where you want the shade to end.
• Width overlap: We recommend adding 2 – 3 inches on each side (4 – 6 inches total). This ensures full coverage and eliminates light leakage from the sides.
• Height overlap: We recommend mounting the shade 10 – 12 inches above the top of the window frame. This allows the stacked fabric to sit above the glass when fully raised, maximizing your natural light.
• Protruding hardware: Be sure to account for any protruding hardware like cranks, locks, or handles that might interfere with the shade's movement.

Measuring — Measuring Tips

• Rounding to 1/8": Round to the nearest 1/8". If a measurement falls between two eighths, round DOWN for width and UP for height. Example: 24 9/16" → 24 1/2" for width, → 24 5/8" for height.
• Deductions applied automatically: Nell applies all necessary factory deductions for inside mount. Do not adjust the width yourself.
• Always measure three points: Never assume the nominal window size is the actual opening. Measure at three points and use the smallest width and largest height.

Installing — Installation

• Time required: Installing your Roman Shades is quick and simple, taking approximately 15–20 minutes.
• Step 1: Mark and drill — secure the brackets to the wall, frame, or headboard at the marked positions.
• Step 2: Secure the brackets — use the provided screws (for installation through drywall and into a stud or solid wood member).
• Step 3: Clip the headrail onto the brackets until it clicks into place.
